One way we can put an unattainable high cost to a human life in Africa is “Animal Care and Protection Act”

I laughed at the Animal Care protection act A.K.A Animal cruelty laws upon learning about it as a teenager. Like WTF!

It was the same time it was always on Yahoo news about bomb blast, suicide bombing in the Middle East and we wondered how someone could kill a lot of people by blowing him/her self up. That was insane. Is it insane today in Nigeria? Or in Africa? Where we have seen it all, from Boko Haram attacks to “headsmen” and to unknown gun men attacks on unwalled villages. And we have also seen how people move on quickly when people are killed by other people. We have also witnessed the government of the day shooting live bullets through peaceful protesters. Kill and erase the incidence from existence.

Then, I begin to appreciate little things as animal cruelty laws and what we can learn from it is largely compassion.

In a study conducted at Northeastern University and the MSPCA, it was concluded that a person who has committed animal abuse is:

a) 5 times more likely to commit violence against people
b) 4 times more likely to commit property crimes
c) 3 times more likely to be involved in drunken or disorderly offenses

Although the study was conducted outside Africa, I believe it’s worth given a shot. If we can alter a variable else where, it can have a large effect on another important variable.

If you have a better idea of how we can grow a compassionate society which can lead to exerting an unattainable high cost to a human life in Africa, shoot!
